Virginia Brown Stien, 93, of Dover passed away at her home on Thursday, January 25, 2018.
Born May 17, 1924 in Greenville, Pennsylvania she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Maude Wareham Oakes. Virginia was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. OK Brown in 1997, her second husband, William M. Stien in 2004 and her son, Brinley E. Brown.
Virginia will be remembered for her energetic, youthful spirit, her positive attitude towards life, and her kindness and generosity. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover; Homebuilders Sunday School Class and served as an Elder. Virginia was also active with the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens, Golden Oldies, Junior Clionian Club, Tuscarawas County Duplicate Bridge Club since 1970 and numerous other bridge clubs, Historical Society, Union Hospital Auxiliary, Mu Chapter of Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority and was a founding member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary. In her younger days, she enjoyed collecting antiques.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Rosamond Brown Gordon, and her husband, Paul of Dover; grandchildren, Chelsea Brown Derr, and her husband, Evan of Columbus and Jillian Brown of Dover; sisters, Evelyn Lowry of Chicago, Marian Baird of Greensville, Pennsylvania and her daughter in law, Karen Brown of Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 31 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Rev. Thomas Dunkle officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Friends can call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
