Walter Samuel Dunfee – December 18, 2017

Walter Samuel Dunfee, 69, of Dover, died Monday, December 18, 2017 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Sam and Edna (Kendle) Dunfee, Walter was born March 30, 1948 at Dover, Ohio. Walter graduated from Dover High School in 1968.  That same year, he entered the United States Army honorably serving his country during the Vietnam War and until his discharge in 1970. Following his discharge from the Army, Walter was employed at Shenengo Co. at Dover.  From there he went to work for United Foundries at Canton where he retired after 15 years of service.  Following his retirement, Walter took a part-time position with the Times Reporter delivering newspapers to carriers. He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren at New Philadelphia, as well as a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W.  Walter was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, but most of all her cherished his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Torgler) Dunfee whom he married July 22, 1973; his son and daughter-in-law, Brennen and Missie Dunfee of Dover; four grandchildren, Alec, Kenzie, Jayden and Bryce Dunfee; a sister, Sue (Randy) Minnis of Dover; a brother, Dan (Mary) Dunfee of Dennison; his mother-in-law, Zoa Torgler of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Ellen (Steve) Stewart of New Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Dunfee and his father-in-law, Robert Torgler.

In keeping with Walter’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.  A memorial service celebrating Walter’s life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the First Church of the Brethren at New Philadelphia with Pastor Max Canfield officiating.  Following the service, the family will greet guests during a luncheon in the church.
