Mary Alice Reporting – Traffic is expected to be lighter than normal for the Memorial Day weekend but a safety reminder is still being issued.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking for all drivers to remain vigilant out on the roadways and to keep the distractions to a minimum.

Press Secretary Matt Bruning notes that, as traffic volumes are rebounding across the state, speed limits need to be adhered to and seatbelts should be used.

“So far this year, 65 people have been killed in alcohol-related crashes. [Meanwhile,] 128 have died in crashes where a seatbelt was available but it was not used.”

Around the state, ODOT signs will show reminder messages to buckle up and to drive sober throughout the long holiday weekend.

As a reminder, any suspicious activity can be reported to the Ohio State Highway Patrol by dialing #677.
