William Dean Guthrie, 88, of Dennison, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Hennis Care Centre in Dover. Born February 15, 1929 in Uhrichsville, he was the son of the late Charles Thomas and Georgia Belle (Crimm) Guthrie.
Bill was a 1947 graduate of Uhrichsville High School before serving his country in the U.S. Army with the 196th Regimental combat team in Anchorage, Alaska. He was employed for 43 years at New Philadelphia Landmark Farm Cooperative until his retirement in 1992. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and Tusco Rifle Club, a long term member of the Farm Bureau Federation, and an avid cyclist who was well known for riding his recumbent cycle throughout the Twin City area for many years. Most importantly, he was a Bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in New Philadelphia.
On October 11, 1958, he married the former Ruth Margaret Rainsberger with whom he enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until her passing on April 2, 2009. They are survived by three children, Rheda D. McCartney, William L. (Kimberly) Guthrie and Anita K. Tucker; grandchildren, Tessia M. Perez, Wesley H. (Tabbetha) Perez, Sara E. (Justin) Armstrong, Tyler L. Guthrie, Casey D. Guthrie, Bryce M. Guthrie, Chelsea E. Guthrie, Dylan J. Tucker, and Shaina N. Tucker; and great-grandchildren, Kaidan Guthrie, DeMarco Perez, Annabella Perez, Seth Perez, Emmalyn Guthrie and Jessica “J.J.” Armstrong.
Services, officiated by Brother David Johnson, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the New Philadelphia Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
