Andrew Josiah Ross, Jr., 85, of New Philadelphia passed into the arms of Jesus on January 6, 2021, comforted by his beloved wife, at Union Hospital in Dover following a brief illness. Born June 13, 1935 in Harrison County, Ohio, Andy was the son of the late Andrew Josiah and Gladyce Claire (Hathaway) Ross.

Andy was a man of good character with a generous heart. He loved God and loved to read the Bible. He believed in the power of prayer and prayed daily for others. He struck up conversations with ease, loved to share his faith, and will be remembered as someone who never met a stranger.

Growing up on a farm, Andy learned to work hard. Following his graduation from Freeport High School, he worked as a handyman and for Nottingham Township. In 1965 he became an employee of Superior Clay in Uhrichsville, where he was a valued laborer for many years.

Andy found joy in mowing his lawn, caring for his cars, reading nostalgia magazines, and watching old Westerns. He enjoyed fellowshipping with the congregation of Feed Springs Church, where he attended with his wife and extended family. A great guitarist, he used to play and sing in many churches along with his mother.

On December 17, 1994, Andy married the former Jean Ann Crosier who survives him at their home. He is also survived by a stepson, Christopher R. (Carolyn Monroe) Crosier; grandsons, Christopher R. Crosier II and Grayson T. Crosier; sister, Glendolyn C. (Robert) Haney; half-sisters, Ellen Fair and Elsie Rutan; and several nieces and nephews by whom he is remembered for his kindness and generosity.

In the interest of public health, no visitation or service is planned at this time. He will be interred in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. In Andy’s memory, contributions may be made to Lighthouse Ministries (
