Individuals filing for the 2020 tax year have extra time after the Internal Revenue Service previously extended the due to May 17th.
This automatic extension is for federal income taxes that were previously required to be filed by April 15th and the City of Dover is reminding taxpayers to keep in mind this new date.
Auditor Nicole Stoldt pointed out that the State of Ohio has also followed suit by extended the deadline.
“The city will also follow suit with this and the city tax deadline will now also be May 17, 2021. I’m also excited to announce that the city now has online income tax filing. The link can be found on our homepage and we are currently accepting credit card payments but we should have the option to pay from your bank account within the next several weeks.”
The IRS urges taxpayers who are due a refund to file as soon as possible.
Penalties, interest, and additions to tax will begin to accrue on any remaining unpaid balances as of May 17th.
