Nick McWilliams reporting – The Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation recently announced over $184,000 worth of scholarships, given to 17 non-profits.

The foundation was formed with the goal of promoting well-being for residents in Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas, and Wayne Counties.

Among those receiving grants, the highest total went to A Whole Community, Incorporated, based in Wooster, for the purchase of a van and boxes for shipping produce. The group aims to help the community grow through healthy lifestyles and wholeness emotionally and spiritually.

In Tuscarawas County, the Committee on Aging based in Dover received $12,000 to address chronic disease for senior citizens, while Society for Equal Access in New Philadelphia was selected for $10,000 for a grant towards the purchase of a new vehicle.

The First Moravian Church in Uhrichsville also received $2,500 for support of the community kitchen.

Additionally, $43,000 of scholarships were awarded to students enrolled in health-related fields, with locations including Kent State University Tuscarawas, Stark, Aultman College, Stark State, and Malone University.

NAMI Wayne and Holmes – Wooster – $3,900

  • Mental health recovery through their art program.

OhioGuidestone – Canton – $5,000

  • Support for their maternal depression program.

Pathway Caring for Children – Canton – $10,000

  • Mental health enhancement program for at-risk youth.

Rittman Fire and Rescue – Rittman – $24,000

  • Support their Safe Community Program with EMS equipment.

Society for Equal Access – New Philadelphia – $10,000

  • Challenge grant to purchase a new vehicle.

Sterling Fire District – Sterling – $12,100

  • Fire hose washer to reduce harmful carcinogens on the hose.

Total Living Center – Canton – $20,000

  • Challenge grant for improved roof structure.

Tuscarawas County Committee on Aging – Dover – $12,000

  • Address chronic disease issues for senior citizens.

Vantage Aging – Meals on Wheels – Massillon – $20,000

  • Subsidize cost and delivery of meals to shut-ins.

Wayne College – Orrville – $2,000

  • Nutritional and personal care item support to students.

  • Purchase van and special boxes needed for shipping produce received from farmers.

YMCA of Western Stark County – Massillon – $5,000
