Nick McWilliams reporting – A junior with Buckeye Career Center was recently named the national champion at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference.

The conference, held in Dallas, Texas, from May 4th through the 8th, brought together students from around the country for skill development and networking connections.

In the end, Xavier Pittman from Claymont earned top marks in the Computer Networking division.

Pittman attends BCC in the Computer Technology and Network Systems program, and earned the top spot out of 45 other students.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic student Julio Sica-Perez came home in 13th in that division, while Tusky Valley’s Lexi Dyrlund was 14th in the Computer Security competition.

Elsewhere, Buckeye Business Academy students Heidi Troyer, Alayna Yoder, and Jolene Yoder placed eighth in the Start-Up Enterprise completion, while Alayna Yoder also placed sixth for Administrative Support Concepts and seventh for Advanced Spreadsheet Applications.

Troyer earned seventh place also in the support concepts class.

Garaway student Bobby Palmer was fifth in Payroll Accounting and 11th in Financial Math and Analysis Concepts, with classmate Heinrich Asbury 15th in that competition.

Palmer also received $750 for a second-place finish for the Knowledge Matters account challenge.
