The Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce is encouraging consumers to consider buying local.
On the 26th, it’ll be Small Business Saturday and it serves as a reminder to shop local, especially during the holiday season.
Chamber President Scott Robinson echoed this thought and asked folks to fill the local shops and the mall and buy local.
“They need your business to survive but they also support your family, your son’s baseball team, your daughter’s soccer team, [and] all those kind of things they give back to the community quite a bit.”
Many small businesses now have online shopping options as well as gift cards available. Robinson pointed out another option for a holiday gift could be Chamber Bucks, which can be purchased in any amount.
“Good at any chamber member. We have a long list that we can give you when you pick those up but that really encourages people to support local businesses. Some years we’ll sell as many as $50,000 worth [and that goes] to the local businesses so that’s a big deal.”
Some of the participating businesses include florists, restaurants, a propane supplier, cleaning service, museums, and hotel locations.
