Carl C. Schweitzer, 91, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2021, at Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar following a period of declining health. He was born February 3, 1930, in Osnaburg Township, Stark County, OH. Carl was the son of the late Jesse and Olive Ruth (Miller) Schweitzer. Carl married Norma Jean (Knerr) Schweitzer on November 14, 1953. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2018, a few months before Norma’s death. Carl and Norma lived many years in Dover, Ohio. In 1985 they moved to a beautiful log home on a hill top in Sherrodsville, Ohio, and enjoyed country living.

Carl is a 1948 graduate of Osnaburg Township High School in East Canton. In 1951 he was drafted into the army. After training on power equipment maintenance, Carl served in the Korean War in the Army Signal Corps for over 16 months. Carl worked over 34 years as an electrician and then as an electronics technician for the Timken Company in Canton. He also taught some classes for the Stark Technical College.

For many years, Carl was an active member of Dover Bible Church, serving on the church board. He also served at Carrollton Baptist Temple during the years they lived in Sherrodsville. Carl and his wife enjoyed hosting a Bible club for neighborhood children. Carl and his wife hosted many missionary families in their home, prayed regularly for them, and Carl was also able to participate in short term missionary trips to Nova Scotia and Croatia. Carl was a member of the American Legion of Sherrodsville. Carl was known for his keen wit and for being a hard worker. He often helped others with electrical work. He had many interests and enjoyed traveling and reading. He especially enjoyed reading the stories about the origins and authors of hymns. He knew the words of many hymns. He regularly read the Bible. Carl and his wife loved to spend time with their grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his children, Beth (Jim) Schwar of Kutztown, PA, Debbie Kerrigan of Bloomington, IL, Patti (Mario) Carobbio of Munich, Germany, and Bob (Wendy) Schweitzer of Pittsburgh, PA, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother (Harold) and sisters (Elaine and Doris).

Services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Dover Bible Church, 4173 Minard Road, Dover, Ohio 44622 with Pastor Mark Britton officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery in Sugarcreek. Friends may call on Friday from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10–11 a.m. at Dover Bible Church. Memorials may be made to the Missionary Fund at Dover Bible Church. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
