Charlotte Lloyd Hanhart passed peacefully on the morning of June 9 at the Inn At Northwood Village in Dover, OH just 3 days before her 94th birthday.
Charlotte Rosalie Radecki was born in Luzerne County, PA. on June 12, 1927. She was the sixth of seven children born to her mother before losing her father at the age of 2. Her mother remarried, giving birth to two additional children. Learning to be independent in a full household, Charlotte went to work straight out of high school in the office of the Western Electric Company in N.J. It was while also volunteering at the local USO that she met her first love, Robert L. Lloyd Jr. an Army officer. They wed in June of 1947 and enjoyed 44 years of marriage before Bob’s passing in Port Saint Lucie, FL. Together they raised 3 children (Pamela, Robert III and Richard) and were blessed with 4 grandchildren who will always remember her as “Babcia” (Polish for grandmother).
Charlotte was fortunate to find love twice when she was introduced to widowed Richard Hanhart. They both shared a passion for golf and created magic on the dance floor. They were married in May of 1993 and stayed united for 27 years until his passing this past December. Charlotte fit seamlessly into her role as grandmother to 8 additional grandchildren and eventually 8 great grandchildren.Charlotte was the ultimate hostess whether she was having the granddaughters over for a sleepover and telling them to bring their “Fanciest Hat and White Gloves” or giving rides on the golf cart and she always made sure everyone had plenty of snacks and beverages. She was always interested in what was going on in the “kiddos” lives which was fortunate since “Pappa” really didn’t like to spend much time on the phone and would quickly pass it on to her. She was a very skilled golfer and developed many friendships via her involvement in the Ladies Golf Associations wherever she lived. Until the very end she would talk about needing to get out for “one more round”. She also cherished her time with her regular bridge group. Charlotte’s weakness, chocolate, especially if it had a marshmallow hiding inside. She would keep them close but was always willing to share. Charlotte thrived in the social world, she loved to dance and just be around people. Leaving a party early was never a good thing as she wanted to be the one to turn out the lights. Even with her recent stay at the Inn at Northwood Village the staff commented on what a delight it was to see her come down to dinner with her make up perfect and her hair done up beautifully as she talked with everyone. Her youngest brother and only surviving sibling John, summed up his memories with “Charlotte was always the prettiest girl in the neighborhood, and she was fortunate to marry the 2 best men in the neighborhood”. We are blessed to have had you in our lives Charlotte, continue to dance with those who have been waiting for you and don’t worry, we’ll get the lights.
