Mary Alice Reporting – Plans are starting to move forward for the build of a multi-purpose facility for the county.

Tuscarawas County Commissioners approved the allocation of $345,000, from the Revenue Loss Replacement dollars, for purchasing a parcel of land at the corner of E. High Avenue and 10th Street.

Board President Chris Abbuhl says the primary intention is to move the Tuscarawas Board of Elections office.

“This isn’t the first time that we’ve tried to find a location for them. We have everybody on board with moving forward so we purchased a property on East High that’s just shy of three acres.”

While the building’s primary use will be for the elections office, other uses like storage and possible training is also being considered.

“Our plans are to go tour other facilities of board of elections, get ideas from what works from them and incorporate that within this building, and we’ll get input from our board of elections.”

Abbuhl adds that an environmental study has been conducted and infrastructure connectivity will not be an issue.

Following design input, the next step will be to have drawings of a proposed building rendered, which will then allow for a cost estimate.
