Mary Alice Reporting – Stepping into the role as Mayor for the first time, Shane Gunnoe heard from council members who acknowledge his appointment during Monday’s meeting.

At the regular session, Dover City Council members acknowledge Gunnoe’s new position as he was appointed, on Friday, as mayor by Judge Adam Wilgus.

Among the comments included Sandy Moss, who noted that the city can start to move forward in a positive way.

“We’ve all been through so much in the past 18 to 24 months. We all know that this is not over yet therefore this council needs to stay united as we have in the past, work together, to do what is in the best interest of the City of Dover, its employees, and residents.”

Gunnoe expressed thanks to his family, the good wishes from his colleagues, Judge Wilgus for the impartial selection process, and then made a pledge to the Dover citizens and employees.

“Our city government has undergone some unusual and difficult times. Although my position as interim mayor is a temporary one, I pledge to make the most of whatever time I have to stabilize city government, improve our city administration, and move Dover forward.”

Former Mayor Richard Homrighausen has been suspended based upon a criminal theft in office charge that is pending in the Tuscarawas Common Pleas Court and depending on the outcome may be reinstated.
