Mary Alice Reporting – The Dennison Depot Railroad Museum has decided to take a step back from managing Historic Schoenbrunn Village.

For 15 years, the Board of Trustees have been the local managing partner and they decided to turn that duty back over to the Ohio History Connection.

Depot Executive Director Wendy Zucal explains the decision is based upon the growth that has occurred at the Dennison museum.

“Since we took over Schoenbrunn, [the depot] has a bed and breakfast and a new building across the street, and there’s quite a few changes going on in the museum, so we really needed to look at the time factor.”

Overall, Zucal notes that she does not see the probability of any major changes in operations, with the depot being over the New Philadelphia site through March, and once Schoenbrunn opens on Memorial Day, it will remain active under new management.

As for the employees, Zucal says they are personnel of the depot and the Ohio History Connection or a new managing partner has the option to retain those workers or hire new or additional employees.

“There are just so many great accomplishments in the past decade and a half that we’re proud of, and we commend our team, the volunteers, and all the community that’s helped us but I think it’s a good decision.”

Zucal adds that any current memberships and triple tickets will be honored until the end of this year.
