Nick McWilliams reporting – A long-time water surcharge on Dover water customers will officially run out at the start of 2023.

Initially enacted in 1994, the surcharge on water bills was intended to fund construction and operations for a water treatment plant at a cost of $6 million.

Interim Mayor Shane Gunnoe had noted the end of the additional fee earlier this year, but made one final reminder that city water residents will have lower bills heading into the new year.

“Beginning in the January billing cycle, residents will notice the removal of the capital water surcharge on their utility bills. This is a rate reduction of $5.95 per month, totaling $71.40 per year on all residential customers’ water bills.”

In total, the end of the surcharge will save city residents over $622,000 combined each year.

Residents with any concerns with their water or sanitary service should contact the Dover Wastewater Treatment Plant at (330) 343-3443.
