Mary Alice Reporting –

An investigation is underway for a two-vehicle crash that left one person dead.

The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was called Thursday just before 11:50pm, to the accident on Interstate 77, near the Bolivar exit.

Sgt. Clinton Armstrong says there was a disabled Honda Pilot sitting in the west berm of the southbound lanes.

“There was another vehicle traveling southbound and it went off the right side of the road, striking the disabled vehicle in the rear.”

A 38-year-old Canton man was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the Lincoln four-door car, a 53-year-old from Canton, was transported to Mercy Hospital.

“There will definitely be charges involved in this because we believe that drug impairment was a factor in the crash.”

Assisting troopers were Bolivar Fire and EMS, ODOT, and the Tuscarawas Coroner’s Office.
