Ellen Lee McGinnis, 72, a lifelong Uhrichsville resident, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, following complications from surgery. Born August 23, 1948 in Dennison, she was the daughter of the late William Stull McGinnis and Theo Jessie (Schwab) McGinnis. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William T. McGinnis, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. I. McGinnis, Hazel Frankland, and Thomas Schwab.
A member of Claymont High School’s first graduating class in 1966, she then earned her cosmetology certification from the Ohio State School of Cosmetology in Columbus. She was a stylist at Sue’s House of Style in Dennison for many years, went on to earn her manager’s license, and was the manager and a stylist at the Village Boutique in Dennison for decades until her retirement in 2018. She also helped many grieving families have a better good-bye with their loved ones as she did their hair one last time at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home for over 50 years.
Ellen leaves behind an expansive church family at Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities, including as a Deacon and an Elder. She baked countless pies for church meals over the years and enjoyed being a part of the Happy Hands Sunday School Class. She loved showering her friends, many dear neighbors, and church family with cards and gifts for every occasion, especially for the many children to whom she was like an extra grandmother. Ellen was also faithful about taking her delicious baked goods and casseroles to anyone who needed a lift. While she does not leave behind any “blood family”, she was a cherished part of many families both in the Twin City area and beyond. In her spare time, she enjoyed her bowling league for many years.
Rev. Mark Unrue will officiate her funeral service on Wednesday, June 9, at 11:00 a.m. in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her brother in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church.
