Mary Alice Reporting – A fire was quickly extinguished but crews remained on scene, about two hours, for overhaul.

Strasburg Fire department responded Thursday, at 3pm, to Hilltop Dr. to Sugarcreek Shavings for the confirmed blaze.

Chief Steven Laskey says that crews arrived in a timely manner and had the fire under control within 15 minutes.

“Was an exterior storage building. Was a tarp covered storage building. It was a small piece of machinery in that building that caught fire.”

No one was injured.

Overhaul last for a couple of hours due to the amount of the wood product.

“Watching and assisting the employees empty an entire hopper of raw material to make sure there was not a rekindle and the fire did not spread. That type of fire, involving that type of material, it is an extensive overhaul to make sure that we’re not called back and further damage to the business does not occur.”

Laskey reports that during a secondary investigation Friday morning, the equipment is already being repaired for continued service.
