Widowhood Workshop: It’s About Life, Love and Loss hosted by the Dover Church of Christ
July 9 - July 11
Our experience after the loss of something or someone we love is grief. It is the journey we live with all sorts of challenges. Losing a spouse is a unique loss. You go from being half of a whole to, well, that’s one of the problems. Who are you now? It creates an identity crisis, a family crisis, a social crisis, sometimes a financial crisis. Because we live and choose to love, we are going to experience loss. Studying widowhood can actually help us with many other kinds of losses. It can help us become more understanding, more compassionate. Who should attend? People who are living. People who love anything or anybody. The reason: Because we are going to suffer loss. 1971 New Philadelphia graduate Dean Miller is going to conduct the workshop Friday, July 9th at 7 PM; Saturday, July 10th from 9 AM – 1:15 PM (lunch provided) and Sunday, July 11th – 9:30 & 10:30 AM. He lost his wife, the former Ruth Ann Reed, a 1971 Dover graduate, on Christmas morning, of 2013. After finding little help for those who were trying to live after spousal loss, he and his family launched a ministry for that very purpose. The ministry as well as the workshops have a dual purpose: to educate and to encourage. The education is for those who have never experienced widowhood. The encouragement is for those who are presently living the challenge. Dean Miller has been a preacher for over 40 years. He is a graduate of Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, TN, and has authored two books: “When The End Comes” and “Before The End Comes”. Both deal with the end of a marriage by death and the struggles experienced with grieving that loss. The workshop is free to attendees. Discussion sessions will be conducted at the church’s building located at 230 East 4th Street in Dover.
