Neal’s presentation will tell the story of John Glenn starting with his birth in Cambridge\, Ohio through his childhood in New Concord and into adulthood where his horizons widened to include the final frontier. John was a prolific figure in American and Ohio history whose impressive service history within the U.S. Marines and his education at Muskingum College\, which included flight training at New Philadelphia’s own Harry Clever Field\, allowed him to become one of the nation’s first astronauts but he didn’t stop there. Towards the end of his life\, he looked towards the future generations and established the Ohio State John Glenn School of Public Affairs along with lending a hand in establishing the John & Annie Glenn Museum and the National Veterans Memorial and Museum. Hope Neal is the Assistant Director of Operations at the Museum Association of East Muskingum who manages the John & Annie Glenn Museum for Ohio History Connection. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in History from Muskingum University in 2022 and is a month away from completing her Masters in Library and Information Science through the Luddy School of Informatics\, Computing\, and Engineering at Indiana University Indianapolis. She has spent the past six years working in the public history field as well as volunteering for Cambridge Dickens Victorian Village and the Muskingum County Community Foundation.
