Mary Alice Reporting – Less congestion is expected on the roadways during the holiday weekend but ODOT is asking those driving to still stay safe.

Despite eleven straight years of year-end holiday growth in travel, for 2020, AAA is predicting a 30% drop in the number of Ohioans who will travel over the period from December 23rd through January 2nd.

Ohio Department of Transportation Press Secretary Matt Bruning says the calculation anticipates 1.4 million fewer vehicles on state roadways.

“For those who do decide to travel, about 96% of them are expected to go by vehicle. If you’re among those traveling, you want to make sure you’re checking out ohgo.com before you head out to find out where you might encounter some delays.”

AAA also encourages motorists to plan ahead any travel route and to ensure their vehicle is ready for any weather that may occur by exchanging a potential dead battery, ensuring windshield wipers are in working order, and checking that tires have the correct air pressure.
