Mary Alice Reporting – A man who failed to comply with a traffic stop made the decision to waive his preliminary hearing.

In New Philadelphia Municipal Court, Cody Nitz, 24, of Canton, appeared before Magistrate Christine Weimer.

The case dates back to Wednesday, July 20th, when, around 8 am, a vehicle reported stolen was spotted by Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Deputies in New Zoarville. A traffic stop was initiated; however, Nitz fled in the vehicle and also on foot.

“Currently being held on a $10,000 bond that was established on his initial appearance. Mr. Nitz has a multitude of charges [including] three counts of fleeing and eluding, receiving stolen property, and resisting arrest.”

Nitz has a list of traffic, criminal, and other misdemeanor cases dating back to 2017 from Stark County Common Pleas Court and it was noted during Friday’s hearing, that Nitz wanted his local bond to continue.

“Cause, like, I don’t want to get released cause I don’t want my time here to stop. I want this time to still add cause I don’t want to be, just like, sitting in Stark County and this time to stop when I’m going to be sitting in Stark County either way.”

Nitz waived the preliminary hearing which will take the case over to the Tuscarawas County Grand Jury for consideration.
