Mary Alice Reporting – Communities will get a boost after $42.1 million was announced in grant funding.

The idea is to help counties across the state from demolition and turn blighted properties into new opportunities.

In this first phase, 87 counties are receiving up to $500,000 in grants as part of the Ohio Building Demolition and Site Revitalization program with the announcement of awarded county’s released.

Tuscarawas will be the recipient of $490,887 with the purpose of getting rid of dilapidated commercial and residential buildings.

Other local communities getting funding included Carroll County, Coshocton County Land Reutilization Corporation, Holmes County Board of Commissioners, Harrison County Board of Commissioners, and Guernsey County Land Reutilization Corporation.

The Ohio Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program was created with the support of the Ohio General Assembly, which funded the program as part of the state biennium budget bill, House Bill 110.
