Nick McWilliams reporting – Efforts are underway to place a historical piece of Harry Clever Field as a display in New Philadelphia.

According to Mayor Joel Day, Airport Commission Chairman Don Kennedy is heading fundraising solicitation for refurbishing the airport beacon that was replaced earlier this year.

Given the historical value of the light which helped identify the airfield for decades, the mayor says that the city wants to memorialize it on the airport grounds.

“Chairman Kennedy wants to restore the beacon to its original working condition, and mount it for display at Harry Clever Field. Buckeye Career Center students will be doing the work.  If you would like to donate to the effort, contact the mayor’s office.”

The light was replaced as a part of a Federal Aviation Administration grant to move the beacon location over to the city’s water reservoir and upgrade with new equipment.
