Nick McWilliams reporting – An Ohio Public Works Commission grant and loan program will help New Philadelphia address a deteriorating road in the city.

Glen Drive sustained heavy damage in the summer, with large amounts of rain causing asphalt to give way.

Service Director Ron McAbier told council the funds would take away much of the cost of the project.

“We were lucky to be awarded a grant in the amount of $278,685. The total cost of that project is $560,700. And we also qualified for a zero-percent interest loan for $126,675 for 20 years.”

Those dollar amounts leave about $155,000 to be paid on the complete overhaul of Glen Drive.

As part of the project, the road will be taken back down to the topsoil and replaced, along with new curbs and storm-drain system.

Bids will not open until sometime in July, with work expected next year.
