Nick McWilliams reporting – Residents are welcome to visit The Movement Community Center for their official grand-opening celebration this weekend.

The brain-child of Jacquie Price from Port Washington and Craig Mann of Newcomerstown, the center serves as a faith-based facility which provides a multitude of services from concerts, to financial education, youth groups, and plenty more.

Price says that given the prominence of the old Moravian Church on Main Street in the village, and her life-long love for Port, when the idea was first created, she and Mann wanted to provide something for the residents and surrounding communities.

“We plan to offer a lot of different services. Services, support, and entertainment. There’s not really a lot of entertainment out there for families right now. And that’s a big thing we want to offer, at least monthly, with some big event. We have quite a lineup of support services available. We’re going to have grief support groups, addiction recovery support group, and we’re looking into grandparents raising grandkids support group.”

Plenty more is expected to be offered in the near future for the center, which is powered by donations.

Price adds that for their official grand opening, will be May 21st, and there will be a little bit of something for everyone.

“We have inflatables, games for the kids, face painting, balloon animals, free hot dogs and snow cones and popcorn, and we’re going to have concerts throughout the day. We’ve actually got three different concerts lined up, and a magic show by Blathmac. I’m sure everyone in the area has heard of Blathmac. That’s Dick McCune, and he does a fantastic job. We’re looking forward to his illusions and his critters he brings along with his shows.”

A BBQ chicken dinner will be offered at $12 per meal, starting at noon, which includes a quarter chicken, Texas Roadhouse rolls, macaroni salad, and more.

The building is also available to rent for weddings and gatherings, with plans to develop a youth center in the future.

Anyone interested in donating can text the word GIVE to &740) 780-5339 or mail checks to The Movement, 216 West Main Street, Port Washington, Ohio 43837. More information is also available on their Facebook page.
