Mary Alice Reporting – After years of public service, Jay Hottinger is leaving District 31 of the Ohio Senate.

Hottinger sat in government serving in the Ohio House of Representatives and then in the Senate to represent Coshocton, part of Holmes, Licking, Perry, and Tuscarawas counties.

In his farewell message, on the Senate floor on December 14th, he noted that time has passed quickly since first being elected into office at 21 years old.

“The 28 years has gone really, really, fast and what I want to encourage all of you to do is to make the most of your time and your opportunities. As I’m at the end of my career, I can’t help but wonder, did I do enough.”

He also left with some parting advice to the remaining and coming in senate members.

“We all need to focus a lot on job creation, on economic development. The greatest thing an elected official is to help a constituent and when you’re thinking about important work, remember we can only be as strong as a society, as a state, as our children.”

The incoming senator for the 31st District is Al Landis as he leaves his seat on the Tuscarawas County Board of Commissioners.
