Joseph Emde Burt, 83, of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Emde) Burt, Joe was born on October 31, 1938, in Cambridge, Ohio.

Joe graduated from St. Benedict High School.  He then served in the US Army, before beginning a career as an insurance adjuster.  Joe married Mildred Crager on March 1, 1969.

Joe was very involved in service to the community during the years that he lived in Tuscarawas County.  He was a lifetime member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge #510.  Joe was a past president of the Dover Exchange Club.  While serving as the Exchange Club President he was instrumental in the formation of the Dover Canal Days Festival.  He also started the Sports Scholarships program for students during his service to the Exchange Club.  He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Benedict Catholic Church of Cambridge.

In addition to his wife Joe is survived by his children, Samantha Lameo of Summersville, South Carolina, Joshua Arthur Burt of Portland, Oregon, Laurie Sue (James) Allen of New Philadelphia, Haley Sue (Brandon) Bailey of New Philadelphia, Justin Allen Stevenson of New Philadelphia, and Nichole Evelyn (Griffin) Hayes of Reston, Virginia, and a great-grandson Preston Allen Stevenson of New Philadelphia.  He is also survived by his sisters, Ellen (James) Donnelly, Kate (Richard) Houston, and Mary (Phil) Fogel all of Cambridge.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Carolyn (Frank) Mingieone, and brother Mike (Janet) Burt.

Visitation for Joe will be held Sunday, November 14, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia.  An Elks service will be held at 1:45 pm on Sunday and a Christian Wake Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 3:45 pm.  A Christian Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, November 15, 2021, at 10:30 am.  Graveside services will be held at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge at 12:30 pm.
