Nick McWilliams reporting – The Republican candidate who will head into the November General Election for an opening county commissioner seat is Kristin Zemis.

An attorney from New Philadelphia, Zemis won decisively over challenger Sally Storad.

She will be contending with Democrat selection Laurie Green, who ran unopposed in the Primary Election.

Zemis offered thanks to all voters for their participation and offered insight into what she hopes to bring to the table if elected towards the end of the year.

“I love this county, and I want to be part of its future. Making sure we are successful economically, budget-wise, and fiscally responsible. And making sure that we are looking out for the health and welfare of all of our county residents.”

The two are vying for the commissioner seat that opened after Joe Sciarretti stepped down for a job in the private sector, and Kerry Metzger was appointed by the Republican Central Committee to serve the rest of the term.

Additionally, two other candidates, Democrat Sam Hitchcock and Republican Greg Ress, each ran unopposed for their respective primary for another commissioner seat, opening after Al Landis announced his bid for the 31st Senate District of Ohio.
