Mary Alice Reporting – In recognition of Juneteenth, the Tuscarawas Library is hosting a special family storytime event tomorrow (Friday).

Juneteenth was designated as a federal holiday to observe the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and also observe their contributions to history and culture.

The New Philadelphia library will host the family-friendly event, at 11 am, that will focus on the history of this holiday. Space is limited and those interested are asked to contact the library at 330-364-4474 to register.

Additionally, the Main Library has two Mondays left, June 20th and 27th, for their Film Festival about Juneteenth. For the 20th, the movie is based on a young adult book about a teen falsely accused of a crime and the final movie is The Uncomfortable Truth. The film showings start at 6 pm. Anyone with questions can contact the library.

As a reminder the national holiday will be observed by businesses on Monday, June 20th and federal buildings will be closed.
