Mary Alice Reporting – For their service in the community through local government, two outgoing commissioners were honored.

Members from the Stark, Tuscarawas, Wayne Joint Recycling District were in attendance at Wednesday’s board meeting to present a “recognition of excellence in service” award to Commissioners Kerry Metzger and Al Landis.

Metzger says that he didn’t get into public service, 30 years ago, to be awarded but expressed his appreciation for the gesture.

“It does mean something to me. I represent it as I must have been doing something right over all those years even though we had to make some negative decisions and positive decisions, and I’m just appreciative of receiving that recognition.”

He adds, that as commissioners, they need to think of themselves as problem solvers and come to the table with the common goal of working together for the betterment of the county.

As for Landis, his job as commissioner is ending at the start of 2023 as he heads to the statehouse to represent the area as on Ohio Senator.
