Mary Alice Reporting – It’s now the transition period for a Dover-native who is taking over as the Executive Director at the Tuscarawas Rainbow Connection.
After serving 22 years, Carmel Haueter is stepping downing and after a lengthy interview process, Perci Garner, 31, was chosen to fill her position.
Garner graduated from Dover High School before attending Ball State University.
Haueter notes that she took part in the final round of the hiring process and for her personally, she was looking for some key qualities.
“The main thing that I personally was looking for in my replacement was a community person. Someone who has roots here in Tuscarawas County. He has computer skills, IT skills, so he’s going to take that part of the Rainbow Connection far.”
Throughout December, the transition period will occur as Garner works closely with Haueter in all aspects of operations at the organization.
“On a day-to-day basis and that’s what we’re working on. We meet with all of our clients before requests go to our board of directors, and that takes leg-work, meeting with the client, and going over all the information that is given to us.”
Haueter adds that, in her retirement, she looks forward to spending more time with her family.
