Nick McWilliams reporting – The yearly National Peace Officer Memorial Day returns this weekend.
First designated in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, the day falls on May 15th, and serves as a remembrance day for the men and women who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Last year, some 617 law enforcement officer deaths were reported, with a large portion due to COVID-19.
Fraternal Order of Police Tuscora Lodge No. 4 urges residents to wear blue on Sunday, utilize blue lights around the house, lower flags to half-staff from sun up to sundown, and place blue ribbons on trees, mailboxes, and poles.
Social media users are also urged to use #LightOhioBlue when posting applicable photos and related content.
Events are being held in Washington D.C. to remember the fallen.
