Mary Alice Reporting – From the first few meetings of this year, one commissioner has already thought about the next budget cycle.

Greg Ress stepped into a Tuscarawas County Commissioner seat at the start of the year after winning the general election.

He sat in on meetings for the 2023 budget process and Ress recommended starting the review for next year at an earlier date.

“So we’re not scrambling. Like to get everybody on board with that and submit that, especially since her and I are new. I think this process would give us a little more time to get to know and go over the budgets.”

Commissioners Kristen Zemis and Chris Abbuhl agreed to the idea but Abbuhl pointed out that the Tuscarawas Auditor’s office would need to be involved in the discussion to make it possible.

As part of the process, the board sits down with county department heads to go over projected available money and any needs or wants departments may have.
