A local Trooper has received a designation after fellow officers and dispatchers nominated him for a yearly award.

27-year-old Shawn Walters, of Warsaw, was selected as the 2020 Trooper of the Year at the Ohio Patrol Post in New Philadelphia.

This destination is bestowed on a person based upon their leadership, professionalism, courteous treatment of others, work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.

Walters has served at the post, in Tuscarawas County, since graduating from the OSP academy in 2016.

Beforehand, he graduated from River View High School in 2012 and then pursued his bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies at The Ohio State University.

Along with this recognition, Walters also, in 2020, completed flight training and obtained a private pilot license.

He also is a volunteer with the Walhonding Fire District and is a junior football coach with River View.
