Nick McWilliams reporting – After the intense and harsh winds from this past weekend, the New Philadelphia service department is wrapping up most of their cleanup.

The storm carried winds that reached 70 miles per hour in some parts of the state, snapping trees, downing power wires, and causing other damage.

Service Director Ron McAbier says that between debris and other cleanup, the city saw a handful of trees fall on homes and vehicles.

He asks all residents to contact his office for any additional assistance on city-owned property or debris removal.

“We’ll do the final cutting of the trees that are near other houses or in yards [Tuesday.] And I’m sure we’ll spend the rest of this week hauling brush and trees. For the folks that may have them in their backyards, you just got to get the stuff out to their front yards. Just call the (330) 339-2121 number and we will have someone with general services come pick that up.”

McAbier adds that issues with traffic lights have been resolved, and downed stop signs seen throughout the city have been addressed.

Some AEP customers remained without power around the state due to the storm, while homes received roof and siding damage, along with other destruction from the gusts.
