Nick McWilliams reporting – Additional help is coming for a trail connection project in the city of New Philadelphia.

The plan is to have the trail run along the Tuscarawas River, past Gradall Industries, leading into the rest of the path that runs from Zoarville to Cleveland.

Service Director Ron McAbier relayed to council at their latest meeting $50,000 would be used to get the ball rolling.

“We’ve been working on [for the path] to start at the Waterworks boat ramp. That will run through the [Ohio Department of Natural Resources] who will be our contact for that. We will continue to work on that, starting at the Waterworks boat ramp, [and we] have a right-of-way and purchase already with Gradall to move their fence to keep that going.”

The city already received $20,000 by way of donation from the Cooper Standard Foundation for the project.

Elsewhere, the Ohio Erie Canalway Coalition is working on raising funds for an additional four miles of trail from State Route 800 to State Route 416.

McAbier thanked Senator Jay Hottinger for assistance with securing funding.
