Nick McWilliams reporting – A project set to bring art pieces that celebrate the Tuscarawas County cultural identity has selected its landing spot in New Philadelphia.
The LoveTusc project through the Tuscarawas Arts Partnership is meant to bring downtown beautification, encourage economic development, and show the spirit of individual communities with unique paintjobs.
Mayor Joel Day announced recently that New Phila’s sculpture will be on full display in the Square, and be featured on the upcoming tour next year.
“At its monthly meeting last Thursday, the Downtown Design Standards Board of Review selected the Gavin’s [Grill] quadrant downtown as the location for the city’s Love Tusc sculpture. Local artist Tony Contini will design the imagery on the sculpture. It will be included in the county-wide LoveTusc Sculpture Tour.”
Day adds that donations are being accepted currently to raise the nearly $7,000 necessary for each art piece.
Donations can be made online at www.tuscarawasartspartnership.org.
A preview is planned for May at the Kent State University Tuscarawas Performing Art Center.
