Nick McWilliams reporting – An awareness campaign by the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported successful numbers.

The New Philadelphia Post stationed troopers in Dover Township along State Route 39 to act as increased visibility and a public awareness campaign on Friday night.

By the end of the night, 720 vehicles were checked, with five diverted from the road for possible intoxicated operation or other violations.

Two drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license, and one was taken into custody for an active warrant.

No OVI arrests were reported.

Checkpoints are not set up with the goal of OVI arrests, instead aiming at educating the public on the dangers of driving under the influence while connecting troopers with the communities they serve.

Impaired driving can be reported to a local post by dialing #677.
