Mary Alice Reporting – The month of December brings about another targeted campaign for the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Units will focus more attention on impaired driving due to the holiday season as many folks may partake in the festive season.

New Philadelphia Post Sgt. William Bower asks folks to make the choice and drink responsibly not only during the holidays but at all times.

“Get an Uber, get a designated driver to drive you to and from. That way you’re not making a bad decision and putting yourself or others in harm’s way.”

He adds that, if holding a party, the host needs to take some responsibility for their guests by not letting a potentially intoxicated person leave the residence.

“Don’t let them get behind the wheel. You always look in the crash, the aftermath, and you always get the what if’s. I just say don’t be a “what if”. Just don’t let people get behind the wheel that has either been drinking or drug-impaired drivers. Take a stance yourself and don’t be a part of that tragedy.”

During a recent three day, multi-state enforcement effort, 237 people in Ohio were cited for impaired driving.
