Paul J. “PJ” Mueller, 86 of Sugarcreek, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, at Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia following a short period of declining health.
He was born in Charm on March 24, 1935 to the late John L. and Nina C. (Hershberger) Mueller and married Neola Keller on May 13, 1962. She died on December 16, 2014.
Paul was a cheesemaker and owned and operated Mueller’s Cheese in Sugarcreek from 1972-1999. He was a member of The Ohio Swiss Cheese Association and served as a lab technician for 11 years as well as treasurer for The Ohio Swiss Festival for many years.
He was an Army veteran and was stationed in Germany. Paul was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek.
In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, and meticulously manicuring his lawn and landscape.
He is survived by his children, Linda (Walter) Wilson, Tom (Brenda) Mueller, and Susan (Kevin) Troyer all of Sugarcreek; six grandchildren, Jon (Lynne) Wilson, Brent Wilson, Seth (Amanda) Wilson, Kelsey Mueller, Justin (fiance Zoe Fisher) Troyer, and Jocelyn Troyer; three great-grandchildren, Kendrick Willson and Mackenzie and Easton Wilson; siblings, Gladys Blundin of Connecticut, John (Myong) Mueller, Jr. of California, and Alice Morrow of Chagrin Falls; and close friend Carol.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Neola.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 11 AM at the First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek with Pastor Earl Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
