Nick McWilliams reporting – Residents in New Philadelphia will see new pavement throughout the city, as paving season got underway Wednesday.

Service Director Ron McAbier told council members that crews with Newton Asphalt were starting on the Southside with Church Avenue.

Work will continue in that area with a handful of other streets being targeted, before branching out to the rest of the city.

“We added Howe Avenue since it’s near there, and 1st Drive. And then from there [they’ll go to] 2nd Drive by Fenton [Brothers Electric.] We’ll try to keep up to date on the city’s website where they go from there, but we will be on the Southside the rest of this week.”

The service department for the city is hoping to address some of the most heavily traveled routes that are in the worst shape but were expecting a sizable increase in terms of cost.

Residents are asked to use caution when in areas where paving is occurring, and give plenty of room to workers.
