Mary Alice Reporting – Mosquito trapping has been conducted by the Tuscarawas County Health Department and a virus confirmation has been reported.

To date, over 3,000 mosquitoes have been submitted to the Ohio Department of Health for testing and on July 27th, the local department was notified of a pool testing positive for the West Nile Virus.

This was on Fort Laurens Road, in Bolivar, and the proactive response will be to conduct mosquito spraying in the Village of Bolivar, this evening, weather permitting. Spraying will then occur in that area again in approximately two weeks.

Any resident with respiratory problems should take appropriate measures to remain indoors during the spraying.

As for the virus, most people will not develop symptoms but fever can be experienced by some.

The Tuscarawas Health Department adds that individual prevention is key when it comes to avoiding a mosquito bite and that includes, using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and removing any standing water to reduce breeding grounds.
