Joe Geckler Reporting
The New Philadelphia Police Department have arrested the man who is alleged to have raped a 12 year-old girl in June.Detective Captain Shawn Nelson says the original complaint was filed on June 18th by a New Philadelphia woman, who reported her 12 year-old daughter was raped by the father of her other daughter’s children.
During the investigation, Captain Nelson learned the suspect 25 year-old Miguel Solas Garcia quit his job, never returned to his Dover home and then fled the area. Captain Nelson adds the suspect had a distinctive tattoo they focused on to help in the investigation. The middle of last week, the police department received a tip that Garcia had relocated to Pocahontas, Arkansas. They verified the suspect’s identity through an informant on the inside. The authorities in Arkansas took Garcia into custody without incident.
The extradition process from Arkansas will begin today and formal charges are expected to be filed as soon as Garcia arrives in New Philadelphia. Captain Nelson explained, DNA evidence of the attacker was obtained during the medical evaluation of the victim. This arrest is being credited to unconventional methods, due to the multiple names and unknown whereabouts of the suspect.
Captain Nelson says he hopes to Garcia in New Philadelphia by the end of the week to face charges.
