Nick McWilliams reporting – The deadline for receiving a state-issued identification card compliant with airport screening is exactly one year away.

The REAL ID will be mandatory for Transportation Security Administration checkpoints starting May 3rd, 2023.

Boarding on commercial airlines will only be permitted with the proper identification.

According to Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles Registrar Charlie Norman, to date, only 46 percent of Ohioans have compliant driver’s licenses.

To receive a REAL ID, residents must provide documentation with full legal name, social security number, date of birth, two proofs of residency, and proof of legal presence.

In order to assist with wait times, residents are urged to utilize the BMV’s online queuing system.
