Robert E. Lee Cox, Sr., 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Born April 27, 1940 in Elton, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Jesse Lewis Cox and Opal Mae (Gwinn) Cox.

Bob was a Tuscarawas County resident for most of his life with the exception of the years that he spent serving his country in the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver for Ergon (formerly Quaker State) for many years, and he loved to play golf in his spare time. He was a former member of the Uhrichsville Eagles and Moose.

On October 24, 1975, Bob married Phamey V. (Fantin) Cox who survives him at their home. He is also survived by children, Robert (Christy) Cox, Jr., Rusty Cox, Roger (D.J.) Cox, Rhonda Abel, Larry Ott, and Patrick (Kimberly) Cox; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter; brother, Dallas (Mavis) Cox; sisters, Marie (Nelson) Phillippi, Mary Pettit, and Alice McConnell; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David, Clifford, Carl, Emery, Alva, Ernest, and Homer Cox.

Rev. Lisa Elliott will officiate a 6:00 p.m. funeral on Monday, November 1, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice. Bob’s family wish to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Community Hospice, especially Nurse Megan McKenzie, for their excellent care during his final illness.
