Mary Alice Reporting – Celebrations will be taking place this weekend to ring in 2023 and the Ohio State High Patrol wants everyone to not drive impaired.

Not only will people be celebrating the start of a new year but a college football playoff game will also be happening, which can bring about merriment and alcohol.

New Philadelphia Post Sgt. William Bower says extra troopers will be out this weekend to enforce the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

“Usually, it’s an uneventful night for us which we hope that occurs again this year. People do a good job planning ahead of time whether it’s a designated driver or they’re just staying at home.”

During the previous year’s reporting period, statewide, there were 12 deaths with six of the crashes involving alcohol or drugs and two accidents were due to speed.

Motorists can report impaired driver or drug activity to the patrol by dialing #677.
