Nick McWilliams reporting – To keep everyone safe on the roadway this year, AAA is asking for anyone transporting a Christmas tree to secure it properly.
A potential afterthought when transporting a tree, improperly tying down a pine tree can result in incidents for cars behind that might be struck or are forced to try and avoid the obstacle.
According to a traffic safety study by AAA, over 200,000 incidents occurred over a four-year span due to debris in the road, with over 39,000 injuries and 500 deaths as a result.
Laws exist through all 50 states about vehicles with items falling from them, most with a fine attached, and some even listing potential jail time.
Always use proper tie-down points, use quality rope or other materials, protect your car’s paint and wrap the tree before transport.
