Shawn Thomas Simmerman, age 41, of Gnadenhutten passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 9, 2021. Shawn was the oldest son of Thomas and Faylene Simmerman, of Peoli of whom he is survived by. Shawn is also survived by his four siblings, Charity Simmerman, Jason (Melissa) Simmerman, Joshua (Jennifer) Simmerman, and Kelli (Gregory) Johnson. Shawn’s nieces and nephews were the light of his life. He leaves behind three nephews: Austin Simmerman, Jack Johnson and Tommy Johnson; and three nieces: Grace Johnson, Farrah Simmerman, and Faith Simmerman.

Shawn was the most caring person and easily liked by all who met him. He found humor in all situations and always tried to make people laugh. He loved sports, cookouts, spending time with his family and friends, and helping on the family farm. Most of all he loved being Uncle Shawn. He was everyone’s biggest fan, always there to cheer them on. Shawn loved his job working for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the West Union United Methodist Church and was in Boy Scout Troop #560 as a teen. Shawn graduated from Indian Valley High School where he played on the Varsity Basketball team as #31 and went on to graduate summa cum laude from Kent State University. There are no words to describe how deeply he will be missed.

Cremation will take place with a celebration of life to take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, since Shawn was such a sports fan and always looked forward to watching his nieces and nephews play sports, memorial contributions can be made to the Indian Valley Athletic Department.
