Mary Alice Reporting –

It’s been a tough year for small businesses in Tuscarawas County and they encourage everyone to shop local this year.

Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday and it’s a reminder to dedicate the support of small businesses and communities across the country.

Tuscarawas Chamber of Commerce President Scott Robinson says many folks may ask for or get a gift card for a bigger corporation but he notes that a lot of smaller businesses also have gift certificates available.

“Area retailers do have gift cards. The Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce also has chamber bucks which are good at any of our participating members. So, there are some options here locally to support the businesses here that mean the most in our community.”

Buying closer to home also helps, not only the businesses but the people employed and the community with tax dollars.

“So we certainly hope that people will get out, go downtown, stop in at their local stores, and make sure they buy their Christmas gifts this year and the local merchants.”
